My New Seasonal 'Roommates'

My balcony has become quite the hub for critters! The Cedar Waxwings have set up their nest in one of the cedar hedges in front of my balcony, and it looks like a pair of Robins will set up shop in another one.

Also for the last two days now a Little Brown Bat has been lodging here. He is more than welcome to stay as long as he likes, and he will certainly 'earn his keep' by keeping away the mosquitoes!

I snapped a few photos of him this morning:

And here are a couple of better photos of to show what they look like:

Aymi has sadly left back to Toronto to prepare for her move out west, which she will update you all on more once she gets herself settled in.

I spent the weekend reminding myself how soft I have grown over the Winter while shovelling loads of free compost for the garden project. Lol.

Sláinte!

  1. OMG! I've never been that close to a bat before! Amazing.

I know the feeling about hibernation during winter. And it's snowing heavily here today!! NUuuuuuuuu! I'm REALLY sick of winter.

  2. Heh, I cannot understand why anyone would be scared of these guys! They can't be more than 3 inches long.

Medusae: Jeez, what's up with this weather?? Sorry to hear you got snow!

My first summer up here, we had snow on June 5th (!!!). Tomorrow should be nicer. ;)

  3. Hello Laurel... when you say the Little Brown Bat has been lodging here... I do hope she/he is doing so out side of your living structure... birds and bats will most definitely set up house inside if they find entry and the trouble is not so much from the critters but from their droppings and the critters that live on them. Unfortunately, I've had such an experience with mites from abandoned sparrow nests.

  8. Oh my goodness! You're so lucky to have a Little Brown Bat hanging on your wall. They are so cute...those little faces and furry little bodies. The photo from dashananda really shows that cute little face! Also..I would love to have Cedar Waxwings and Robins nesting on my balcony. You must be sending out a protective vibe! :-)
