I'd definitely be up for this if I was local - and I think even teenage sweet fiend Jed might come along ;)
Have you ever tried Canadian maple syrup? Remind me and I will send you some out next time! :)
So delish!!
I have friends / package penpals from England and Ireland and we send things back and forth to each other - usually 'local' things you can't buy overseas.
My English buddy DEMANDS maple treats! heheheh
Apparently they can get maple syrup (I dunno where from, or even if it's 'real'), but they cannot get any items made with maple; like maple candy, maple sugar, maple cookies, etc.
I sent him some packages of hot-chocolate with maple flavouring and he was over the moon! ^.^
I'm sure he'd love this festival.
Apparently instead of eating maple syrup like we do here, they have treacle, a honey-like syrup made from sugar cane. They do sell it in grocery stores here, but I haven't actually bitten the bullet and bought a jar of it. I dunno.... sugar on my pancakes?? Sacrilege!!
Fun?Fact: on the label of the 'Lyle's Golden Syrup', the most famous of the UK treacle brands, sports a dead lion carcass. Bees buzz around the rotting corpse, having made their hive inside the lion's decaying body.
"This is a reference to the Biblical story in chapter 14 of the Book of Judges in which Samson was travelling to the land of the Philistines in search of a wife. During the journey he killed a lion, and when he passed the same spot on his return he noticed that a swarm of bees had formed a comb of honey in the carcass. Samson later turned this into a riddle at a wedding: "Out of the eater came forth meat and out of the strong came forth sweetness""
Samson.. you are weird. And a jerk. "Meh, I killed a lion. Just left it there. I mean - what would I do with a lion anyway?"
*droool* Maple fudge & candy! Lucky friends across the pond you have there! :D
I am pretty sure that the packaging would turn me off me brekky. :(
